Altitude + Ballast Game Changer
Setup: 2004 Centurion Avalanche C4 22', 5.7 Mercruiser magnum 315HP, 1:1 transmission, 1-1/8" shaft, 4200-5500 ft elevation, 2500-3000# ballast.
Uses: wake foil, surf, wakeboard
The low speed drivability of this prop is phenomenal. great control and you can lift the bow so quick when you're circling through waves on a pickup. The hole shot is excellent, even coming from a direct drive ski boat. Our top end speed didn't drop going from an acme 11.5 pitch prop to this as it was too much prop at the altitude the boat is used at, we get the same 36mph with both, however the RPM went up from 4000 to 4700 at WOT. The motor sounds happier at all RPMs and activities as it isn't lugging to keep up with the load. this prop pulled the boat on to plane at 2500# of rear and mid ballast with 7 people and nobody in the bow.
We don't cruise faster than 30 mph generally, so the biggest shocker was getting better fuel economy despite the higher rpms, Lugging your motor is no good folks, it wears the motor and burns fuel... get the low pitched prop!
