Your Wakesurf Board's New Best Friend, A Board Bag

Whether you just bought a sweet, new wakesurf board or still are riding the same board for years now, a board bag is a must-have item. It is no secret that wakesurf boards are fragile. Built just like their ocean counterparts, wakesurf boards are built to perform at a high level but unfortunately are also susceptible to dings, cracks, and harmful uv rays if not stored properly. Protect your investment and extend its life by protecting it inside a wakesurf board bag.

All of those things can be avoided by simply handling your board with care and keeping it inside a board bag while in transit or not out on the water riding. So what are the benefits of carrying your board around in a board bag?

Here are just a few reasons why you need a wakesurf board bag:

  • Helps keep your board protected from harmful uv rays, accidental drops, and those "oh $%&!" moments
  • Transporting your board to/from the lake is much easier thanks to the carrying handle and/or shoulder strap
  • There is typically extra room to store fins, board shorts, life jacket, or whatever else you need on the water
  • Take your board wherever you go as it can be checked onto a flight, train, or bus ride

Buying a Wakesurf Board Bag: What to Consider

Size and Fit
One of the most important factors to consider when buying a wakesurf board bag is the size and fit. You want to make sure that the bag is the right size for your board. A bag that's too big can lead to your board shifting around and potentially getting damaged during transport. A bag that's too small won't provide adequate protection.

Most wakesurf board bags come in standard sizes to fit different board lengths, such as 4'6", 4'8", and 5'0". Make sure to measure your board and compare it to the bag's dimensions to ensure a good fit. Keep in mind the shape of your board, like a skim style board vs a blunt-nosed board, so your bag fits the board shape.

Padding and Protection
The next consideration when buying a wakesurf board bag is padding and protection. The bag should be well-padded to protect your board from dings, scratches, and other damage.

Some wakesurf board bags also come with reinforced nose and tail areas for added protection. This is especially important if you're traveling with your board or storing it in a place where it might get bumped or knocked around.

Materials and Durability
The materials and durability of the wakesurf board bag are also important factors to consider. Look for bags made from durable materials, such as polyester or nylon, that can withstand wear and tear over time. The zippers should also be heavy-duty and easy to use.

Water-resistance is also a feature to consider. While you don't want to fully submerge your board bag in water, you do want a bag that can repel water in case of rain or spills.

Additional Features
Finally, consider any additional features that may be important to you. Some wakesurf board bags come with additional pockets for storing fins, wax, and other accessories. Others come with backpack straps for easy transport.

Our recommendation is that you buy a padded board bag. Although they are spendier than a surf sleeve, they are infinite times better at protecting your board from the sun, accidental dings, and anything else that might harm it. Whether making the quick trip to the lake or flying to Lake Havasu, we always store our boards in this style of bag.

The cheaper alternative, a surf sleeve doesn't offer the same uv ray or impact protection as a traditional board bag.

Wakesurf boards are spendy. Don't skimp on protecting yours. As the famous saying goes, "buy nice or buy twice". If you decide to buy a surf sleeve, you will likely realize shortly thereafter that you want/need a padded board bag. Don't get us wrong... a surf sleeve is better than nothing but for only a few more dollars you can get a board bag.
