Fresh off the press this morning, Nike Wake announced that Yan Lecomte is the latest addition to their Team. This seems like a well deserved honor for the 2013 Wakeskate Magazine Wakeskater Of the Year. If you haven’t seen his infamous gap from Good Ratio give this link a click and scroll down to the bottom of the page… you won’t be disappointed!

Here’s their official Press Release:

“We are happy to announce the addition of Yan Lecomte to the Nike team. Yan will be joining Nick Taylor, Ben Horan, Andrew Pastura, and Austin Pastura. Yan brings a lot to the table, and is an amazing rider. His notable big drops are just an addition to his technical and well rounded ability on a wakeskate. There seems to be no end to his capabilities on a board. We are very excited to see what the future holds for our newest member, Yan Lecomte.”

Is this strange to anyone else? I guess it pays to be on Silas’s Remote Wakeskate Team. When uncle Phil put the kibosh on the Nike 6.0 brand I started to notice that the athlete roster was getting shorter and shorter. As recently as Winter X when contracts were up they are not renewed.

Now that Nike SB and Nike Snowboarding have made their way back to up from the hit they took during the recession it is clear their is once again money to be made. How many kids did you see riding a wakeskate, BMX bike or skateboard that were not wearing Nike kicks on their feet? Maybe the phasing out of obscure action sports is no longer the game plan for those at the top of the ladder.

For one I am excited to see this money being allocated to a sport I actually like doing on the weekends. I mean it’s no battle of the bodies like the CrossFit Games but that is not my life. Right Jake?
