    Wakeboard Mirror Buying Guide

Wakeboard Tower and Windshield Mirrors are often the most overlooked, but important boating accessories. Finding the right mirror and mount will make your boating experience safer and your neck will thank you later. WakeMAKERS carries CIPA and PTM Edge mirrors, Both of these brands use the latest optical technology to give you crystal clear vision behind your boat. If you have any additional questions about mirrors or mounting hardware, please give us a call at (888) 338-6085 or email us at sales@wakemakers.com.

    Wakeboard Tower Mirrors

Wakeboard Tower mounted mirrors are a popular option for most of our customers. The sleek design and almost unlimited mounting spots give you the option to place the mirror anywhere on the tower. We carry Tower Arms that range from 1-7/8" to 2-1/2" and they work for most major OEM and factory wakeboard towers. If you are interested in purchasing a wakeboard tower mirror you will first need to figure out your tower width to make sure it will fit.

  • Tech Tuesday #4: All about the NEW Johnson Ultra Ballast Reversible Pump

Welcome to Tech Tuesday! Each week we will choose one question from a customer and post the answer on our blog. You can join in on the action by emailing your technical questions to sales@wakemakers.com with the subject: Tech Tuesday, or hit us up on social media with the hashtag #WMTechTuesday.

Johnson Ultra Ballast Pump with Orange ImpellerWhat is the difference between the Johnson Pumps from WakeMAKERS and the one's I find on Amazon or Ebay?

At WakeMAKERS, we pride ourselves in being advocates for our customers. Not only will we facilitate the warranty process when something does go wrong but we also only stock the newest newest version of the products we sell. That is why we got rid of all of the black impeller pumps and now only have the Johnson Pumps with the orange impellers on our shelves. The high-strength, elastomeric material is self-lubricating which is key in producing faster fill/drain times. Our test's have shown that the orange impellers outperform standard neoprene or rubber impellers when it comes to reliability during run dry. The Johnson Ultra Ballast Reversible Pump also features extended protection in the form of a thermos overload switch that will shut the pump off before long term damage can be done to the motor.

How do you service the Johnson Reversible Pump to help it last longer?

Flexible Impellers, like the one featured in the Johnson Reversible Ballast Pump, work best when they are used regularly. Impellers may become damaged or ruined by debris, chemicals, or by running the pumps dry for too long. If you put 100 or more hours on your boat a year it would be wise to change your ballast pump impellers once a season. If the boat is run less frequently the ballast impellers should be changed every two seasons. (Johnson Ultra Ballast Pump Orange Impeller)

    Johnson Ultra Ballast Reversible Pump

How can I winterize my Johnson Reversible Pump?

In order to keep your Johnson Pump and Impeller running like new we recommend taking it out, rubbing it with Vaseline and storing it in a Ziploc bag while you're boat is dormant during the winter months. Remember that the best time to remove the impellers is during the winterization process.

How does hot water and what ever solution run through your ballast system during invasive species inspections affect your impeller?

The life of your impeller will depend on the temperature of the water you are pumping through it. The Johnson Impeller is designed to work best and have a normal lasting life between temperatures of 41F-131F. Anything above or below that range will have an impact on how long the impeller will be in good working function.

  • Tech Tuesday #3: Eight.3 Telescoping Ballast Bag/Pump System Explained

Welcome to Tech Tuesday! Each week we will choose one question from a customer and post the answer on our blog. You can join in on the action by emailing your technical questions to sales@wakemakers.com with the subject: Tech Tuesday, or hit us up on social media with the hashtag #WMTechTuesday.

Why Can't I use the Eight.3 Ballast Pump with my Fly High Bags?

Eight.3 Ballast Pump Automated System Integration

A lot of boat owners have inquired about obtaining the amazingly fast speeds of the Eight.3 ballast system but also demand the convenience of automation. At this point in time there is no way to integrate the Eight.3 3000 GPH or Eight.3 3700 GPH pumps due to the lack of a threaded intake port.

We are working closely with Rule to source an adapter or entirely new high capacity ballast pump specifically for this application. Another problem we will need to solve is the massive reduction in speed based on the vertical rise of the fill hose. When filling a bag the rise is around 25” but the rise from a bilge compartment intake up to the rear storage locker can be as much as 40”. The static head pressure can cause a reduction in the flow rate by up to 50%. Any gains that were obtained by the larger capacity pump and hose are quickly voided.

How do I use the Eight.3 Telescope Ballast Bags and Pump?

Why can't I use the Eight.3 Ballast Pump with my Fly High Bags?

How-to Fill Ronix Eight.3 Telescoping Ballast Bags

Ronix Telescoping ballast bags fill essentially the same as any other wakeboard ballast bag and portable pump system; secure the fill hose connection from the pump to the port on the top of the bag and plug in the pump. There is a built in check valve to help eliminate water from coming out of the bag when overfilled. *Because the Eight.3 pumps are much larger and heavier than other pumps make sure to hold on to it after you throw in over the side of the boat so it doesn't sink.
    Filling Eight.3 Ballast Bags

How to Drain the Ronix Eight.3 Telescoping Ballast Bags

The big difference between Eight.3 and other ballast bags comes in during the draining process. The Eight.3 3700GPH Submersible Pump is over 2x faster than anything else on the market and because of this the pump is also much larger. A built in telescoping port is necessary in order to fit the 3000GPH and 3700GPH pumps.
    Draining Eight.3 Ballast Bags
To drain the bag start by pulling the velcro top cover away from the port area. Once you have done this, pull the port as high as it will go and unzip the telescoping chamber. Once you are ready to drain the bag, drop the submersible pump into the port and plug in the cigarette lighter.

The Eight.3 Submersible Pumps are designed to work specifically with the 400, 800, and 1100lb. Telescope CTN Bags. The unique telescoping dry chamber gives you enough space to easily drop the Submersible Pump and it eliminates priming. *When the bag is almost empty you may need to grab one side and gently lift it up to pool the remaining water to the pump side of the bag.

    Is it really that fast?

We've also been getting this question quite a bit from customers, so we thought we would make a video to show everyone just how fast Eight.3 is. The first week we got the Eight.3 Bags in from Ronix we decided to speed test them versus a Fly High Bag and Tsunami Pump to see just how much faster it is.

Watch the Eight.3 Ballast Bag and Pump in action against a Fly High Bag and Pump.

  • Tech Tuesday #2: 2014 Straight Line & Liquid Force Ballast Bag Improvements

Welcome to Tech Tuesday! Each week we will choose one question from a customer and post the answer on our blog. You can join in on the action by emailing your technical questions to sales@wakemakers.com with the subject: Tech Tuesday, or hit us up on social media with the hashtag #WMTechTuesday.

What did Straight Line do to fix the fitting issue some of the bags had last summer?

Straight Line made vast improvements to their 2014 Ballast Bag Line. Based on customer feedback the bag fitting port threads have been reinforced with an internal composite ring providing additional strength and durability.

With 2 drain on either end and 2 fill/vents on top both the Straight Line and Liquid Force BroStock ballast bags will easily integrate with our side to side ballast transfer system we call the X-Link System. An additional spring loaded Link port also makes it possible to fill and drain with a Straight Line Sumo or Super Sumo Pump for maximum efficiency.

All 2014 Sumo bags are a compatible upgrade for the 2013-2014 Malibu Hi Flow Plug and Play Ballast System, 2013-2014 Axis Hi Flow Plug and Play Ballast System, 2014 MasterCraft Gen 2 Ballast System and the 2014 Supreme S21 Plug & Play Ballast System. All 1" NPT bag ports are compatible with almost any off the shelf threaded fitting as opposed to the 3/4" NPSM ports that comes standard in Fly High sacs and are proprietary.

Another big addition to the Straight Line ballast program for 2014 is the Axis Wake Research specific bag line. These bags are designed to fit perfectly in your Axis boat from the rear locker all the way to the bow. The new integration bow bag is set to be released early this spring making it possible to fully integrate your boat with Straight Line Ballast.

Axis Wake Liquid Force Edition Wake Boat

Why are Straight Line and Liquid Force Ballast Bags a good value?

-Easily integrates with WakeMAKERS X-Link System

-Versatile sizing: Straight Line and Liquid Force Bags are designed to fit in most boat manufacturer's storage lockers.

-Bigger 1" NPT ports: Compatible with almost any fitting system.

    -Additional drain port is standard

Wade Motawi at Liquid Force  "We have test results of Sumo vs. Competitor. Our Sumo Skin has 37% higher tensile strength and 150% higher tear strength. Yeah we were shocked to see the results too. Turns out we have a much stronger fabric reinforcement layer."

Liquid Force product designers met with Malibu product engineers to come up with the 600lb. bag that fits almost perfectly in the rear locker of Malibu and Axis boats. You don't have to spend the extra money on buying a bigger sac that you won't fully utilize. With Straight Line and Liquid Force it is all about getting a custom fit for your boat without the custom price tag.

The Integrated Bow Bag and two different Ski Locker Bags are new for 2014, so you can finally load up your whole boat with Straight Line Ballast.

Straight Line  and Liquid Force Ballast Bags and their Actual Weight

Another bonus feature in the 2014 Straight Line Series is that you get more weight for your buck. We've been keeping our eyes on a WakeWorld post where a few guys measured the actual weight of Straight Line, Fly High, and Eight.3 bags versus the advertised weight... Lets just say that Straight Line and Liquid Force did well for themselves.

Liquid Force BroStock 750 - Actual Weight: 800lbs.

Straight Line Sumo 900 - Actual Weight: 1000lbs.

Straight Line Sumo 300 - Actual Weight: 320lbs.

Straight Line Flat Sac 800 - Actual Weight: 840lbs.

Straight Line Sumo Bow Bag 650 - Actual Weight: 830lbs.

  • Tech Tuesday #1: O'Neill Boost Drysuit Technical Overview

Welcome to our first official Tech Tuesday! Each week we will choose one question from a customer and post the answer on our blog. You can join in on the action by emailing your technical questions to sales@wakemakers.com with the subject: Tech Tuesday, or hit us up on social media with the hashtag #WMTechTuesday.

    O'Neill Boost Drysuit Technical Overview

The O'Neill Boost is by far the most popular cold-water wetsuit or drysuit we stock at our warehouse. The versatility and warmth make the Boost popular among wakeboarders, kiteboarders, and water skiers. We get a lot of questions from customers asking about the difference between the O'Neill Boost and some of the cheaper competitors suits. Here's our in depth answer as to why the O'Neill Boost can't be matched in terms of value and performance.

3-Layer Nylon Shell O'Neill BoostNylon Shell

The Boost is made with a 3-layer breathable nylon shell that is abrasion resistant and extremely durable. The fit is similar to that of a jumpsuit or baggy pants and jacket. This added room gives you great mobility, a comfortable fit and lots of room for layering clothes.

    • Lightweight, Breathable Nylon Membrane
    • Completely Waterproof
    • Baggy Fit

O'Neill Boost Fully Taped SeamsFully Taped Seams

O'Neill goes the extra step and fully tapes all of the seams on the Boost Drysuit. This is a special waterproof tape which is added to the inside of all the seams in the Boost drysuit. The fully taped seams make the Boost completely waterproof, so you can rest assured that you're clothes will stay warm and dry underneath your suit.

    • Every Seam is fully taped for waterproofing
    • Provides greater durability

O'Neill Boost Neoprene Neck SealNeoprene Neck

The Boost features a chafe-free smooth skin neoprene neck seal that is similar to a wetsuit. Most drysuits come with a latex neck seal which can be uncomfortable, and hard to get on and off. We recommend *rolling down the neck seal for a more comfortable fit.

*See the image for an example.

    • More comfortable than a Latex neck seal
    • Easy Entry and Exit

O'Neill Boost Back Zipper Back Zipper

The popularity of the Boost drysuit among wakeboarders and kiteboarders is due in part to it's unique back zipper design. By placing the zipper from shoulder to shoulder it stays out of the way and makes the Boost much more mobile than chest zip drysuits.

The horizontal back zipper is also relatively easy to get on and off. We recommend using *wax on the outside of the zipper and zipping it back and forth a few times to help lubricate the teeth before you put it on for use. It is possible to zip and unzip the drysuit by yourself but we recommend having someone else help you out if possible.

*Each O'Neill drysuit comes with a wax stick or lubricant.

    • Heavy-Duty Design
    • Easy entry and exit

O'Neill Boost Adjustable SuspendersBuilt-in Adjustable Suspenders

Built-in suspenders allow you to quickly and easily adjust the fit and hang of the drysuit. This makes the Boost a great option if you are looking for one drysuit to fit multiple riders.

    • Re-inforced nylon panel mount area
    • Quick click-in and click-out
    • Stretchy suspenders

    O'Neill Boost Wrist Seals
    Extra Thick Latex Wrist Seals

The wrist seals are made from extra thick latex material. They are extremely durable and they provide a water tight seal. Unique O-Rings around the wrist seals provide another water tight barrier and make the seals more comfortable.

    •  Water Tight Seal
    • Durable

O'Neill Boost Ankle SealsExtra Thick Latex Ankle Seals

The extra thick ankle seals provide a durable and water tight fit without being uncomfortable. O'Neill's latex ankle seals are almost 2x as thick as some of the other brands wakeboard/waterski specific drysuits. O-Rings provide another level of water proof integrity and increase the comfort of the seals.

    • Water Tight Seal
    • Durable
